A competency lexicon is a crucial tool for setting up competency management in your organization. It promotes an unambiguous wording with regard to competencies and expectations. It facilitates the dialogue with employees, colleagues, management ... because it ensures that everyone in the organization speaks the same language.

WHAT’S IN A COMPETENCY LEXICON

In order to discuss competences in an objective way, it is very important that everyone knows what is meant by each competency and how you can observe the competence in actual behavior. To what extent a competence is present, from which observable behavior can you deduce this, etc. A solid competence lexicon provides an unambiguous language.

In the Quintessence competency lexicon you will find an overview of 35 current competences with their well-defined description. On top of this it provides an overview of observable behavioral indicators per competence (concrete behavior) divided into competency levels and the extent to which a competence is present.

WHAT CAN I USE IT FOR

A competency lexicon provides a basis for drawing up job profiles, for the competency-based selection of new employees, for training and supervising your employees, for various interviews, such as high-quality performance appraisal interviews, but also for objective evaluation interviews and so on. When you as a HR professional are talking about the competencies of people or their development opportunities in any context, a uniform language really facilitates your work.

• a printout of the dictionary with all competencies and behavior indicators per level, divided into a number of clusters that comprehensibly structure the whole.
• You will also receive the dictionary license digitally in case you would like to integrate the instrument into your systems. The dictionary is available in 3 languages (Dutch, French & English) and can be purchased according to your needs, in one, two or three languages.
• A Competency Wheel: this widely known model provides you with a visual representation of the competencies and the various clusters.
• Competency Cards, discussion cards that make the dialogue about competences particularly easy. Each card contains the competence with the definition. On the back a handy description of the various levels is provided.
